![]() ![]() I think I would personally be more satisfied with a replacement control if the price was within range of my budget, as opposed to just trying to replace the tilt/trim switch within the control. I know some controls can be repaired this way, but most are made from plastic that snaps together and when separated the plastic snap parts tend to break. I think you might want to consider whether the switches that are built into the helm control actually can be removed and replaced without destroying the control though. GusGus, the same for your question also, just go online and find the parts breakdown for your engine control using the motor year and model number for your Mercury, these parts are available. I have nothing much to do the last few days, just sitting around here on call to go to work and it's raining so I can't go fishing. I would need the year and model of your engine and the length of cables required for your boat to start. It would help if you had given us the information needed to run that control down, I would be happy to look the part number up for you and still willing to do so. If you are talking about the actual steering control arm at the motor which is actually mechanical, it is also available for direct ordering but you will need to know what type and brand along with the model number of your steering system for this part. All this can be done online at the sites that sell new old stock parts, I found one available for my 1986 Johnson 140 HP with tilt and trim on 2 different sites and they were both available in a complete kit. You need to look up the part number for the control you need based on the year and model of your motor. Isee them occasionally come up on Ebay, and if I am not mistaken, they can be ordered online from several suppliers. If this is correct, the answer to your question is YES, there are replacement controls for old motors. If I understand your question, and I am not certain that I do, the control arm that you are referring to here is the helm control for shifting and throttling. Does anyone know if there is a replacement arm that would have the trim in it for old style omc controls or if my idea to splice is reasonable? Most whaler owners I have talked to have said you have to play with the trim to make the boat perform well under varying conditions and the only trim I have right now is on the motor. I am currently waiting on a new helm and trying to spend the waiting time on the other parts of the project. For one reason or another my project still hasn't hit the water. ![]() I am wondering if there is any way to just splice in a toggle switch to the trim plug on the motor. So the arm on my old style controls came off of a newer set of controls and the plug doesn't fit my motor. ![]()
